How can you create a durable timeless wardrobe and still look stylish? And which items does a wardrobe need for a strong foundation? Here are some tips!
To truly live more sustainably, it is important to create a wardrobe that lasts. But how do you ensure that you create a wardrobe that you don't get bored of quickly and that also looks stylish and trendy. Because if I dress sustainably, this can't be trendy, can it? That's possible! You can create a sustainable wardrobe that just never goes out of style and yet is innovative.
Step 1: Basics, basics, basics
This is perhaps the most important tip for when you want to create a sustainable wardrobe. Focus on basics first.
Garments with a neutral color such as: brown/beige, cream, white, black and gray are easy to combine with other (colorful) garments. This means you don't have to go to the store last minute to find an item that should bring the outfit together. Basic colors save your day! These colors are also very nice to wear together, if you want to go for a minimalist look or if you don't want to bother :)

Step 2: Vintage vibe
When you have the right basics, you can start looking at which items are really valuable additions to your wardrobe. A very good place to find additional products is to go thrift shopping, or while looking for second hand pearls. Because the clothing is vintage, it can't be out of style, you just think it's beautiful and that's why you get it. You will not find such a beautiful leather oversized jacket anywhere else as in the vintage clothing store. Not a fan of second-hand clothes? Try vintage-inspired garments that have been worn over the years. Like the 90's based oversized sweaters with old school prints.

Step 3: Do not buy directly
This is not an easy one, because once you are in love with a piece of clothing, there is nothing you can do about it. But try to set the rule for yourself to always sleep 1 night before you actually purchase the item of clothing you have seen. In this way you start to think better whether the item of clothing really fits in your wardrobe and you sometimes come to the conclusion that you actually already have such a piece of clothing hanging in your closet or that you don't really need it that much. Ultimately, by complying with this rule, you only purchase the real showpieces, which you also get rid of a lot less quickly. I know this sounds difficult, but try this for half a year and you will see that it works.
Step 4: Clothes swap with friends
Sometimes you are a huge fan of a number of items of clothing, you have been wearing them for years, but you are simply a bit tired of them. At such a moment it is time for a clothes swap. By exchanging your clothes you don't get rid of them right away, and the spark may one day fly again. In the meantime, you can wear your friends' gems. This allows you to try new things, allowing you to discover different styles than you would normally go for without having to buy them right away. Once you know what you want and you go shopping for a day, you are less likely to make impulsive purchases and shop more specifically and therefore more consciously.
